PROFILE OF KHAIRUN UNIVERSITY

A Short Story Khairun University was established on 15th August 1964, and became the first higher education institution (HEI) in the District of North Maluku. The university was registered a year after. The founding fathers were ranging from leaders of the region, prominent figure in society and educational sectors at the moment. It was run under a presidium and chaired by Head of the District of North Maluku at that time. Until the fifth Rector, the University was finally being enacted as a state university according to the Decree of President No. 18 dated 17th of March 2004. Vision, Mission, and Motto The presence of Khairun University as a state university  caries a novel vision that is excellence in developing science, technology, and arts underpinned by archipelago and diversity for humanity and prosperity. The vision would be realised under 3 main missions: 1) the fulfilling of basic facilities of teaching at higher education institution; 2) the strengthening of governance and human resource development; and 3) the establishing of basics organisation and academic quality assurance. The university is proud of its motto: Stepping Forward Together with Science Universitys Element Khairun University owns 7 faculties with 33 study programs. Faculty of Law has one B-accredited study program, which is Study Program of Law Science. There are 3 study programs at Faculty of Economics, named Study Program of Economic Development (B-accredited), Management (B-accredited), and Accounting (C-accredited). Meanwhile the Faculty of Teaching and Educational Science runs Study of Program of Civics (B-accredited), Education of Literature and Indonesia Language (C-accredited), Education of English (C-accredited), Education of Mathematic (B-accredited), Education of Biology (C-accredited), Education of Physic (C-accredited), Education of Chemistry (C-accredited), and Certified Diploma II for Elementary School Teacher (C-accredited) Faculty of Agriculture runs 3 study programs which are Agrotechnolgy (C-accredited), Husbandry Production Technology (C-accrdited) and Soil Science (C-accredited). Moreover, there 4 study programs at Faculty of Fishery and Oceanography. Among theses, only Study Program of Waterworks Cultivation has been accredited at C level. The other 3 study programs: Management of Waterworks Resources, Oceanography, and Empowerment of Fishery Resources are under process of being accredited. At the Faculty of Literature and Culture, it runs 3 C-accredited study programs: Indonesian Literature, English Literature, and Historic Science. The faculty also owns one brand new study program that is Anthropology. At Faculty of Engineering, the faculty runs 4 study programs, namely Civil Engineering (B-accredited), Mechanical Engineering (C-accredited, Electrics Engineering (C-accredited), Architecture (B-accredited) and Information Technology (C-accredited), Besides those 31 study programs which are run under 7 faculties, in 2009-2014 Khairun University granted permission to run Study Program of Magister are Magister Management Science.Magister of Low, Magister Marine Science Also Magister Economic Science, to support educational process there are 4 technical units: Library, Computer Laboratory, Teaching Internship (PPL), and Course for Personality Development (MPK). Khairun Universiy also possesses2 main bureaus: Bureau of Finance and General Administration (BAUK) and Bureau of Administration of Academic, Studentship, Planning, and Information System (BAAKPSI). There is also an Institute of Research and Devotion to Community (LPPM). Besides , the university owns several centre of studies such as Women Centre of Study, Centre of Study for Economics and Business, and few others. The Management Currently Khairun University is chaired by Prof.Dr. Husen Alting, SH., MH as the Rector, and assisted by 4 Vice Rectors. First Vice Rector for Academic Affair chaired by Dr Dr. M.Ridha Adjam, M.Hum.; while Second Vice Rector for General Administration and Finance occupied by Dr. Abd Wahab Hasyim, SE, M.Si. Vice Rector for Students Affairs is Ramly Rasyid, ST, MT, and Dr. Ir. Abdurahman Hoda, M.Si is Vice Rector for Collaboration and Planning). Besides those management at university level, each faculty is headed by a Dean, Director for School of Post Graduate, Head of Bureaus, and Chairman of LPPM Data and Information There are Universitas Khairun almost approximately10000 registered students throughout 35 study programs and 7 faculties. This figure has increase from 6000 in 2008. Figure 1  Student Body Over the last 4 Years With almost 500 active lectures, and supported by more than 300 tenures, GPA of above 3.00 is expected to achieved by them during the last five years. Facilities Khairun University owns a representative rooms for lecturing, science laboratories at Faculty of Fishery and Oceanography, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Teaching and Educational Science, Central Library, Mosque, Canteens surrounded. Figure 2 Laboratory Facility The university is currently constructing new campus in West Halmahera with 100 acres in wide. Whilst 3 campuses in Ternate: Campus 1 in Akehuda , Campus 2 in Gambesi, and Campus 3 in Jati have a wide of more than 28 acres in total. These campuses would be connected through integrated management information system by 2012, through IMHERE Project a world-bank financed project.
